Indawgyi Lake

9 Days bird watching tour to North Myanmar (Burma)
For see speciality Myanmar waterbirds and other speciality bird species

Itinerary

Expect more than 200 bird species

Day 1: Yangon (Myanmar, formerly Burma) arrival day
Arrive at Yangon (formally Rangoon) international airport. Transfer and check in the hotel for a two night stay. If we have time we will do Yangon City bird watching tour where Little Grebe, Bronze-winged and Pheasant-tailed Jacanas, Lesser Whistling Duck, Common Moorhen, Oriental Darter, Little cormorant, Coppersmith Barbet, Mynas, Bee-eaters, Bulbuls, Tailorbird, Prinia and other birds will be seen. Overnight will be at hotel in Yangon.

Day 2: Hlawga Wildlife Park
In the morning, we will drive to Hlawga Wildlife Park to do bird watching. Here we will be able to see the rare Pale-capped Pigeon, Racket-tailed Treepie, Red Junglefowl, Green, Blue-tailed and Chestnut-headed Bee-eaters, Green-billed Malkoha, Lesser Racket-tailed and Greater Racket-tailed Drongos, White-rumped Shama, Black-headed, Black-crested, Red-vented, Red-whiskered, Stripe-throated with red eyes which is only found in south Myanmar and near-endemic Streak-eared Bulbuls, White-crested and Lesser Necklaced Laughingthrushes, Puff-throated and Chestnut-capped Babblers, Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker, Ruby-cheeked, Olive-backed and Purple Sunbirds, some water bird species such as Oriental Darter, Spot-billed and Lesser Whistling Ducks, Cotton Pygmy Goose, Common Moorhen, White-breasted Waterhen, Red-wattled Lapwing, Little Ringed Plover and others. We can also see wintering bird species such as Osprey, Black-naped Oriole, Spotted Redshank, Painted Stork, Asian Openbill, Black-naped Oriole, Black-winged Cuckooshrike, Oriental Reed, Greenish and Yellow-browed Warblers and Forest Wagtail. Late afternoon we will drive back to Yangon. Overnight will be at hotel in Yangon.

Day 3: Yangon – Myintkyina – Indawgyi ( Lake) Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary
Morning fly from Yangon to Myintkyina. Upon arrival drive to Indawgyi Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary, we will do bird watching on the way. Here we can see Common Crane, Collared Myna, Chestnut-tailed and Black-collared Starlings, Barn and Wire-tailed Swallows, Pied Harrier and other bird species. Overnight will be at guest house on the bank of the Lake.

Day 4 - 5: Indawgyi Lake
We will do bird watching two full days on Indawgyi Lake by boat. Here will be able to see water bird species - thousands of Lesser Whistling and Tufted Ducks, Ferruginous Pochard, Purple Swamphen, Common Coot and Brown-headed Gull together with Northern Pintail, Gadwall, Little and Great Cormorants, Egrets, Red-crested Pochard, Black-winged Stilt, Oriental Darter, Sarus Crane, Spot-billed Pelican, Lesser Adjutant, Black-necked, Black and Wooly-necked Storks, Asian Openbill; and terrestrial bird - very rare White-rumped and Slender-billed Vultures, Greater Spotted and Grey-headed Eagles, Brahminy Kite, Western, Eastern, Han and Pied Harriers, Collared Falconet, Oriental Hobby, Great and Oriental Pied Hornbills, Stork-billed Kingfisher, Greater Yellownape, Greater Flameback, Thick-billed Green, Pompadour Green, Yellow-footed Green and Green Imperial Pigeons, Plaintive Cuckoo, Green-billed Malkoha, Collared, Rufous and Grey Treepies, Blue-bearded Bee-eater, Dollarbird, White-vented, Collared and Hill Mynas, Black-collared, Chestnut-tailed and Asian Pied Starlings, White-throated Bulbul, Jerdon’s Bushchat, Striated Grassbird, Sultan Tit, Yellow-bellied Warbler, Crimson Sunbird, Yellow-breasted Bunting and many other bird species. Overnight will be at guest house on the bank of the Lake.

Day 6: Indawgyi – Myitkyina
Morning, we will drive back to Myitkyina for a two night stay. We will do bird watching on the way. Overnight at hotel in Myitkyina.Map For Trip


Day 7:
Ayeyarwaddy River
Morning transfer to jetty and then continue to Ayeyarwaddy River by wooden boat. Here we can see thousands of Bar-headed Goose, Ruddy Shelduck, Gadwall, and Small Pratincole, Hundred of Spot-billed and Tufted Ducks, Ferruginous Pochard, Common Merganser, Common Crane, Pallas’s Gull and Great Cormorant together with River Lapwing, Pied Kingfisher, Oriental Honey Buzzard, Great Crested Grebe, Oriental Darter, Black Stork, Spot-billed Pelican and Sand Martin. In the evening drive back to Mytkyina.Overnight at hotel in Myitkyina.

Day 8: Myitkyina – Yangon
Fly back to Yangon for one night stay. Overnight at hotel in Yangon.

Day 9: Departure
City tour or visit to famous Shwedagon Pagoda, the city's primary Landmark, with its magnificent golden stupa. Transfer to Yangon International Airport for the departure flight at your flight time.

Notes

The best time to go is during November to May.

Fitness: The tour does not require a high level of fitness but particularly should be in good general health.
Accommodation:
Twin sharing room. The guest house at Indawgyi is basic.
Climate: The conditions are usually hot during the sunny day but cool in the early morning. Raining conditions are unlikely but possible.
Equipment: Recommended gear to bring is sun hat, sun cream, flash light, raincoat and fleece-jacket.
Group Size: Minimum 2- Maximum 10
