"HKAKABORAZI NATIONAL PARK"

Hkakaborazi National Park is situated on the Himalayas Mountain Range in the northern most part of Myanmar. It is very mountainous with rugged terrain and fast-flowing streams and incorporates Mt. Hkakaborazi (5,881m, snow-capped mountain), which is the highest peak in south-east Asia. It is land locked with no transportation except by footpath and by bridge made of cane across the streams. This park is covered by evergreen, hill pine and moist upper mixed deciduous forests.
According to Ward F.K (1949), over 1,000 plant species (including the 85 species of orchids), especially Myanmar endemic species such as Paphiopedilum wardii, Rhododendron simsii, R. delavayi, R. stewartianum and R. pruniflorum can be observed.
The area hosts many avifauna (363 species recorded) and rare mammal species such as Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Tarkin, Musk Deer, Blue Sheep, Black Barking Deer, Red Goal, Leaf Deer Muntiacus putaoensis(Myanmar endemic), Bear, Red Panda and others.
Kakaborazi is one of Myanmar most interesting and exciting experiences for bird watchers. Rare montance birds such as Blood Pheasant, Common Pheasant, Blyth's Tragopan, Himalayan Monal, Great Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill, Rufous-necked Hornbill, Speckled Wood Pigeon, Silver Broadbill, Yellow-billed Blue Magpie, Spotted Nutcracker, Brown Dipper, Long-tailed Thrush, Grey-winged Blackbird, Hodson's Redstart, Little Forktail, Beautiful Nuthatch, White-tailed Nuthatch, Rusty-flanked Treecreeper, Rufous-vented Tit, Coal Tit, Common Goldcrest, Yellow-bellied Bush Warbler, Grey-sided Bush Warbler, Grey-cheeked Warbler, Chestnut-crowned Warbler, Rufous-faced Warbler, Striated Laughingthrushe, Chestnut-headed Laughingthrushe, Rufous-vented Laughingthrushe, Slender-billed Scimitar Babbler, Wedge-billed Wren Babbler, Black-headed Shrike Babbler, Green Shrike Babbler, Yellow-throated Fulvetta, Rufous-throated Fulvetta, Beautiful Sibia, Rufous-vented Yuhina, Black-chined Yuhina, Fire-tailed Myzornis, Rufous-breasted Accentor, Maroon-backed Accentor, Dark-breasted Rosefinch, Dark-rumped Rosefinch, Red Crossbill, Grey-headed Bullfinch and Gold-naped Finch are possibilities.
One may also observe the traditional culture, custom and system of living of local Rawang, Htarong (short people, about one meter), and Lisu tribes and Myanmar-Tibet ethnic nationals.
In addition the activities of butterfly watching (369 species include rare species of Kaiser Teinopalpus imperialis, Apollo Parnassius imperator, Bhutan Glory Bhutanitis ledderdalei and Golden Bridwing Troides aeacus praecox) and adventure, trekking and hiking on the Himalayas Mountain Range and to Mt.
