Kalaw is located in the Shan Plateau in East Myanmar at 1,300 meters about sea level. Vegetation is characterized by moist deciduous, dry deciduous and pine forest. 348 species of bird have been recorded in this region. The highlight would be White-browed Laughingthrush, Red-billed Scimitar Babbler, Spectacled Barwing, Dark-backed Sibia, White-browed Shrike-Babbler, Burmese Yuhina, Grey-headed Parrotbill, Yellow-cheeked Tit, White-capped Water Redstart, Japanese White-eye and Russet Sparrow. In addition the studying of butterflies and plants, trekking in Kalaw to hill tribe villages and observation of the traditional culture, custom and system of living of local Pa-o, Palung and Shan ethnic can be made. Recommend to visit all the year round but the best time to do bird watching is during October to May .
