T his region is nearest to Hkakaborazi National Park and Hponkan Razi Wildlife Sanctuary in the Eastern Himalayas at the northern part of the country. Vegetation is primarily evergreen forest in which various species of plants, especially Paphiopedilum wardii and Rhododendron simsii, grow. These are endemic to Myanmar. Leaf Deer Muntiacus putaoensis (Myanmar endemic) and various species of mammals may be viewed. In this site only 127 species of bird have been recorded, but it is believed many unseen species are yet to be discovered. The highlights would be Great Hornbill, Collared Myna, Collared Treepie, Brown Dipper, Chestnut-headed Tesia, Silver-eared Mesia, Red-faced Liocichla, White-bellied Yuhina, Burmese Shrike and Green-backed Tit. In addition over 300 species of butterfly (especially rare species of Kaiser Teinopalpus imperialis, Apollo Parnassius imperator, Bhutan Glory Bhutanitis ledderdalei and Golden Bridwing Troides aeacus praecox) are found in the Putao Region. Adventure and trekking on mountainous regions in the natural forest, sightseeing of the scenic beauty panorama of the snow capped mountains and mountain ranges, and the study of the traditional culture, custom and living system of the hill tribe Kachin, Shan, Rawang and Lisu can be made. The best time to visit is from November to April.
