SST in Nature/Environmental Conservation
SST become active in nature conservation since S.S.T Tourism start the tour operations in ecotourism.
Myanmar Bird and Nature Society was born at office of SST Tourism Co. Ltd in 2000. The youth of nature lovers gathered at SST and discussed to establish a non-profit conservation body. Due to the efforts of U Nyein Chan and his colleagues, MBNS is now working with international conservation societies.
On behalf of Myanmar Bird and Nature Society, SST has been carrying out environmental education
activities at state schools since 2003. In June, 2003 U Nyein Chan, executive officer of MBNS led the
environmental awareness programme for primary level students in 13 state high schools, Yangon city.
At the same time U Naing Lin also participated in the activities of environmental education at
Minsontaung Wildlife Sanctuary. SST staff lead by U Thet Zaw Naing, secretary of MBNS, educated the
primary students of Yelekalay village in Maoobin Township as well as at Khante township lead by U
Nyein Chan.
In November, 2004, SST staff U Thet Zaw Naing and U Naing Lin did again at three schools in Longlone
Township. The team including Daw Zar Yin Yin Win and Daw Nwe Nwe Kyi tried to make awareness on
birds at 15 schools around the Inlay Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary sponsored by OBC in the month of
September and October. U Thet Zaw Naing together with U Naing Lin, Daw Kyu Kyu Shein and U Mya
Lwin range officers of Popa Park carried out awareness activities at 13 schools near by the Mt Popa.
In August, 2006 U Thet Zaw Naing and his team made awareness program at 16 basic primary schools
in Tanaing township, Kachin State supported by UNDP as well as U Kyaw Htoo did the same at 14
schools in Phaan Township.
In January, 2007 Daw Zar Yin Yin Win and her team educated bird protection at 13 schools near by
Inlay(Inle) WS, and than U Thet Zaw Naing and his group made the education program again there in
November, 2008.
U Myint Shwe, former park warden of Minsontaung WS has recently finished four year project of
environmental awareness program at 13 basic primary schools in Natogyi Township in the year of 2002,
2003, 2004 and 2007.
SST not only participated in the education program but also published the newsletters in Burmese and
in English. Daw Zar Yin Yin Win, Daw Nwe Nwe Kyi and U Kyaw Naing Htoo worked hard to edit and
distribute for the issues of six in Burmese and 3 in English in a year. The team carried out from October
2002 to June 2005 for the MBNS.
SST also sponsored to MBNS for the pamphlets such as Turtles of Myanmar, Birds of Myanmar, Flowers
of Myanmar, and Coral reef, World Wetland Day, Butterflies, Minsontaung WS and Indawgyi WS.
SST staff also joined to do environmental conservation exhibition on the moment of school family day at
University of MaU Bin in 2003 and 2004.
