Salon, who were very poor and lived at seas and they are our native. They have special qualities of sincerity, peacefulness contentment and skillfulness at seas. So we called " The marine Nomads"Skifull in boating even a child
Sea Gypsy Festival(Salon Festival) was held at the Ma Kyone Galet village ont he BoCho Island, near the Lampi Island.
It was intended to promote the Salon's native life and to be developed into a major toruist attractive region.
They travel around the seas most of time and only live temporary on the islands to avoid bac typhone. These tribes are living on boat carrying the whole family, artifacts, food-staff and pets. Their earning is to collect marine products and sell such as rockoyster, shell fish, coral, Salon Natambergirs, honey and other. As they are very skillful can plunge down to the depth of 80' under the water surface as 15 minutes without taking a diving suit. So must of them are deaf because of water-pressure. Some historians call them " Sea Gypsies "
Salon are men fo little greed. They live temporary on the island especially raining season. They live in house and they do not think that the house is their own. It can be lived in by the others.
They will be no dispute ont he ownership of the house, when they reach other there again next raing season and happen to know the house has been already occupied by other.
They can have such on attitude because they will not have to worry for their living as long as seas and islands are existing.

Salones and the Mergui Archipelago

he Myeik (Mergui) Archipelago, located in southernmost point of Myanmar (Burma), comprises of over 800 gorgeous islands. Due to its virtual isolation, the islands and surrounding seas are alive with an amazing diversity of flora and fauna. The only human inhabitants in the area are the Sea Gypsies called Salones by the Myanmars(Burmese) and Moken by Thais and Malaya. They live on boats during dry seasons and remain on land during rainy seasons. They stay practice the same fishing and boat building traditions used for generations. Being affectionate to sea, much skillful in swimming and diving, their ways of life and customs are so characteristic and unique that a traditional festival will be launched with an aim to attract international tourists; as well as to operate marine eco-tourism around the islands in the Myeik Archipelago.

Salon Festival Itinerary

These tribes are living on boat carrying the whole family, artifacts, food-stuffs & pets. Sometime stop at one island to avoid bad typhone. Now they have 2 big village near Zardetkyi island called Talun village and Kawk Nyaw village in Kawthaung township, Thaninthayi division. At that two village, 138 houses and 655 Salon are living. They birth on boat, growth on boat and die on boat. They are boat life people. These tribes are living on boat carrying the whole family, artifacts, food-stuffs & pets. In next year, Myanmar tourism promotion department to promote their festival at Makyonkalet Island near Lampi national marine park, one of the least disturbed island habitats in South East Asia.
We, SST is one of the official authorize agent to operate that Festival Tour.
